Highlights • HIV-1 Env expressing replication competent vaccinia m8Δ prime/Sendai virus vector boost elicited both long-lasting cellular and humoral immunities. • VV m8Δ vectors containing different promoters activate different arms of the immune system. • The vaccine regimen can be optimized to selectively induce either cellular or humoral immune response.
