Summary: | The natural origin of the native flour extracts used for the commercially available skin prick and ImmunoCAP tests results in batch-to-batch variation, a limited allergen spectrum, and contamination by other components. [...]the test reliability is limited, and a considerable number of false-negative results with commercial extracts have been shown.4 Because of these limitations, the gold standard for the diagnosis of baker's asthma is still the SICT. Nonoccupational exposure to wheat flour cannot be ruled out because of the frequent use of wheat flour at home. Because none of the control subjects had allergic complaints indicating cross-reactivity (eg, against grass pollen), we assumed specific reactions. |
