Bibliography: | BMC ; Weight standardization ; Osteoporosis Areal bone mineral density( aBMD) has been used for osteoporosis diagnosis for many years, but it unavoidably leads to missed cases in patients with large bones and misdiagnosed cases in those with small bones. Body weight is regarded as an important determinant of bone mineral content( BMC) in recent years because weight is the source of mechanical loading to bone.Epidemiological studies have shown that weight made the largest contribution to bone mass among 34 predictors. Publications from China and overseas have shown close association between weight and BMC( up to 0. 704-0. 872 for the association between body weight and whole body BMC),and the association was stronger than that of BMD,suggesting that weight standardized BMC is suitable. It was also found that BMC/body weight index( wBMC) is an invariable constant from children to young adults for whole body and one-third of distal radius. Applying wBMC for osteoporosis diagnosis may avoid misdiagnosis in individu |
