Abstract_FL A series of optically active MeO-BIPHEP type ligands, (R)-6,6'-dimethoxy-2,2'-bis(di-p-alkoxyphenyl-phosphine)-1,1'-biphenyl, were synthesized, and the ruthenium complex with these ligands, [Ru(diphosphine)(C_6H_6)Cl]Cl, was applied for the asymmetric hydrogena-tion of β-ketoesters. Influence of temperature, pressure, substrate/catalyst molar ratio, and solvents was tested. The results showed that the 98.0% of ee value was achieved for the hydrogenation of ethyl acetoacetate in EtOH. [Ru(diphosphine)(C_6H_6)Cl]Cl showed high catalytic activity and enantioselectivity for the asymmetric hydrogenation of various β-ketoesters.
