Summary: | The advantages of pipe lines for the overland transportation of petroleum and its refined products have been demonstrated thoroughly, with more than 85,000 miles of trunk crude oil and products lines now operating in the United States of America alone, and construction of new lines proceeding at a rate limited only by the availability of pipe. Electric power is used increasingly for pipe line operation, because of its increasing availability and a widening appreciation of its advantages from the standpoints of investment in station equipment, maintenance and attendance costs, reliability, and effectiveness of control. |
