Summary:In his recent letter, Slonim has concluded that piecewise polynomials approximating actual functions can give more accurate results than computer methods like (FFT's). Contrary to this conclusion this letter reveals the generation of spurious harmonics by such approximating polynomials due to discontinuities of approximating functions and inherent advantage of FFT approximations because of their band limiting capabilities.
