High-precision time measurement technology has many important applications in space exploration, high-energy physics and measurement of speed, flow volume, distance, etc. A chip for this function is usually named Time-to-Digital converter(TDC). Several schemes and techniques are analyzed and design of a TDC chip based on ring oscillator is presented in this paper. The TDC chip is implemented in 0.18μm IP5M CMOS technology. Test results show the resolution of measurement is 52 ps. The TDC chip can be used in different kind of measurement, such as flow volume, temperature, distance, etc.
