This article systematically expounded the background,reason,achievement and problems of the ＂deinstitutionalization＂ movement of psychiatric medical institutions in western countries on the basis of reviewing the literature, understanding the data, analyzing the resources and summing up the experience. To explore whether the western deinstitutionalization movement is suitable for Chinas national conditions and to provide reference for the development of Chinas mental health.
