Excellent germplasms are the important material base of genetic techniques and cultivars innovation.The discovery,collection and utilization of special germplasms will bring on a revolutionary in breeding history.Therefore,developing breeding of special tea plant germplasms will be of great significance for science,society and economy.In this study,the advancement of breeding research on special tea plant germplasms with high tea polyphenols,high caffeine,high amino acids,low caffeine,high perfumes,leaf color variation and no hibernating,and Camellia assamica var.kucha were summarized.Finally,the exiting problems and possible directions for these research areas was discussed.Furthermore,the application prospect of these special tea plant germplasms was also predicted.
