Summary:A series of new sympathomimetic amines having a 3, 4-dihydrocarbostyril nucleus was synthesized. These compounds have two weakly acidic hydrogen atoms in locations similar to those of the hydroxyl groups of adrenergic agents containing catechol. One threo-isomer 1i-threo was synthesized by inversion of the corresponding erythro-isomer by the SNi reaction.
