Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is an advanced technique for noninvasive evaluation of placenta, and a complete clinical examination program has been formed. MRI provides anatomic and functional information of placenta in vivo. The MRI signs of placenta abnormal attachment include abnormal location of placenta and signal abnormalities of placenta and uterus. MRI is superior to ultrasound in the diagnosis of placenta implantation and previa, especially suitable for the complex condition which is difficult to diagnose by ultrasound. Various techniques of functional MRI have been used in animal experiments and elinical studies of placenta. Placenta MRI has more research potentialities and a good clinical application prospect.
