Summary: | Heightened activity of circulating Tissue Factor (TF) has been linked to a variety of macro- and microvascular cardiovascular complications commonly observed in diabetes mellitus. Systemic and localized vascular abnormalities comprise the most debilitating feature of diabetic pathophysiology. Blood monocytes are chronically activated in diabetes, and serve as the major source of bioactive intravascular TF. This review examines recent literature on this subject, with a special emphasis on the abnormal monocyte physiology in diabetes and the structural and functional diversity of circulating TF. |
