Summary:A new system for the rapid and microscale analysis of flavonoids has been established using capillary isotachophoresis. Under the conditions employed, authentic flavonoids examined were clearly separated into individual zones, and the compounds in plant extracts could also be identified on the basis of enhancement of the appropriate zones in runs involving mixed charging of extracts with the authentic samples. This new technique seems to be useful for the detection of rutin (quercetin-3-O-rhamnoglucoside), which is a taxonomical marker in the genus Calamagrostis (Poaceae), in large numbers of plant specimens of this taxa on a micro scale.
