Distribution of membrane progesterone receptor alpha in the male mouse and rat brain and its regulation after traumatic brain injury

Highlights ► mPRα shows a wide distribution in the male rodent brain. ► In basal condition, mPRα is expressed by neurons but not in the glia. ► After TBI, mPRα is induced in astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and activated microglia.
