Summary: | Comparison of Midregional Pro-Atrial Natriuretic Peptide With N-Terminal Pro-B-Type Natriuretic Peptide in Predicting Survival in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure Stephan von Haehling, Ewa A. Jankowska, Nils G. Morgenthaler, Corrado Vassanelli, Luisa Zanolla, Piotr Rozentryt, Gerasimos S. Filippatos, Wolfram Doehner, Friedrich Kohler, Jana Papassotiriou, Dimitrios T. Kremastinos, Waldemar Banasiak, Joachim Struck, Piotr Ponikowski, Andreas Bergmann, Stefan D. Anker Plasma levels of natriuretic peptides are powerful predictors of survival in chronic heart failure (HF). Using a new immunoassay, we assessed midregional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP) in 525 patients with chronic HF. Plasma levels of MR-proANP increased with disease severity. Increasing MR-proANP was a predictor of poor survival after adjusting for N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), age, left ventricular ejection fraction, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class, creatinine, and body mass index (BMI). In patients in NYHA functional class II to III and all subgroups of BMI and creatinine, MR-proANP added prognostic value to NT-proBNP. In patients with a BMI >30 kg/m2 , the prognostic power of MR-proANP was higher than that of NT-proBNP. |
