Summary:[INTRODCTION] Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a mature B-cell neoplasm, is characterized by increased abnormal lymphocytes in peripheral blood with bone marrow, lymph node, and splenic involvement. Small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) consists of the same neoplastic B-cells characterized by enlarged lymph nodes without peripheral blood involvement, and the same treatment strategies for CLL are used. In Japan, CLL/SLL is a rare disease, accounting for 3.2% of malignant lymphomas. Although rare in Asia, CLL is the most common leukemia in Europe and the USA, with an incidence rate approximately 10 times that of Japan. The median overall survival (OS) of symptomatic advanced CLL is reported to be approximately 6 years, and chemotherapy should be considered for patients with High Risk of the Rai Classification, class C of the Binet Classification, or International Workshop on CLL (iwCLL) active disease manifestation.
