Summary:This study examines welfare recipients' progress following assessment through job skills programs and job readiness activities. While past research has focused upon process measures of success such as client participation, this research focuses upon two outcome measures, job-readiness and self-reliance. The research finds that there is a significant correlation between JOBS programs, job readiness and employment only when programs are coordinated with the private sector. This finding holds important implications for welfare reform.
