Highlights • Virus was detectable in the blood at baseline in only 15/17 neonates. • The median half-life (T1/2 ) of virus decline in blood in neonates was 2.4 days. • T1/2 is similar to adults so prolonged viraemia in infants is not explained by this. • Virus dynamics differ between blood and urine which may inform future studies
