Highlights • Spotted scat MC4R cDNA was cloned and phylogenetic analyses were performed. • Spotted scat mc4r was widely expressed in various peripheral tissues including gonads in sexually divergent pattern. • Spotted scat MC4R had high constitutive activity and bound to THIQ allosterically.
