Liposome-mediated DNA uptake by sperm cells

Summary:To investigate the potential use of sperm cells as vectors to transfer exogenous DNA via the fertilization of oocytes into the germ line of mice, we have used liposomes to transfect DNA into the sperm head. Although the DNA transfer into sperm mediated by liposomes was very efficient and no obvious reduction in the fertilization frequency of oocytes could be detected, we were unable to generate transgenic mice by this method.
