Hydrogen Diffusivity and Solubility in Pd–Y Alloys

Hydrogen diffusivity and solubility were measured in Pd containing less than 5 at%Y at room temperature, using an electrolytic method. It is confirmed that the addition of Y increases both the H diffusivity and solubility. The results suggest that Y atoms do not act as trapping centers of H atoms at...

Summary:Hydrogen diffusivity and solubility were measured in Pd containing less than 5 at%Y at room temperature, using an electrolytic method. It is confirmed that the addition of Y increases both the H diffusivity and solubility. The results suggest that Y atoms do not act as trapping centers of H atoms at room temperature. It is considered that the addition of Y lowers the H site energy in Pd and it also lowers the activation energy for H diffusion.
