Summary:•Digital transformation of clinical microbiology laboratory is essential to improve its efficacy•We compared urine culture colony count results by BD Urine Culture App and technologist results.•The concordance rate of 96.5% was observed for culture samples in MacConkey II Agar.•The application may assist technologists with semi-quantitative urine culture analysis in automated clinical microbiology laboratories. We aimed to assess the clinical utility of BD KiestraTM Urine Culture App (UCA). High concordance rates were observed between the urine culture colony counts obtained by medical technologists and those produced using UCA. This application may increase the efficiency of obtaining semi-quantitative urine culture results.
