Highlights • Epileptic spasms in clusters without hypsarrhythmia may be a variant of West syndrome. • Epileptic spasms in clusters may be a seizure type in non-West epileptic encephalopathies. • The treatment response of the epileptic spasms without hypsarrhythmia depends on the underlying etiology. • The treatment of the epileptic spasms in the second subgroup depends on the type of epileptic syndrome.
