Summary:Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a significant health risk worldwide, and effective management strategies are needed. Polyphenols exhibit diverse biological functions, are abundant in various plants, and influence carbohydrate digestion and absorption. This review provides a comprehensive overview of clinical evidence regarding the relationship between dietary polyphenols and the postprandial hyperglycemic response. Human intervention studies have demonstrated the benefits of polyphenol-rich foods in improving glucose and insulin metabolism, underscoring their role in preventing T2DM. These findings highlight the potential of polyphenol-rich foods for managing hyperglycemia and mitigating T2DM risk and provide insight into effective dietary strategies for glycemic control and overall health.
