Immunoexpression of BMP-2 and BMP-4 and their receptors, BMPR-IA and BMPR-II, in ameloblastomas and adenomatoid odontogenic tumors

Highlights • We analyzed the expression of BMPs-2 and -4 and their receptors (BMPR-IA and BMPR-II) in SAs, UAs, and AOTs. • BMP-2, BMP-4, BMPR-IA and BMPR-II were detected in all cases studied. • BMPs-2 and -4 and their receptors play an important role in the differentiation and development of amelo...

Summary:Highlights • We analyzed the expression of BMPs-2 and -4 and their receptors (BMPR-IA and BMPR-II) in SAs, UAs, and AOTs. • BMP-2, BMP-4, BMPR-IA and BMPR-II were detected in all cases studied. • BMPs-2 and -4 and their receptors play an important role in the differentiation and development of ameloblastomas and AOTs. • These proteins may not explain the different biological behaviors of these lesions. • Alterations in the regulatory mechanisms of BMPs may contribute to their overexpression in ameloblastomas and AOTs.
