Summary:In the Scandinavian countries, introduction of immunization has almost completely eliminated Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) as a cause of meningitis in early childhood. However, concerns have been raised as to whether other capsular serotypes might replace Hib (called serotype replacement). We report a case involving a six-month-old boy with meningitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae type f (Hif).
