Summary: | Tischendorf and Fahrig's (2000) recent minireview "On the usage and measurement of landscape connectivity" (hereafter T&F) deals with measures that are widely used both in landscape ecology and metapopulation ecology. Prompted by their evaluation of the use of connectivity in landscape ecology, we felt obliged to make some comments about the use of connectivity measures in metapopulation ecology. Unfortunately, despite parallel interests, landscape ecology (the specialty of T&F) and metapopulation ecology (our specialty) remain largely separate disciplines, which is demonstrated by the shortage of references to metapopulation literature in T&F. |
