Summary: | A conference on water reuse was cosponsored by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Water Environment Federation (WEF). Proceedings from the conference contain papers covering a wide variety of water reclamation and reuse issues. Proceedings from annual conferences of AWWA, WEF, and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) also included several papers on water reuse. Many individual papers from these conferences are cited in this review. A comprehensive book on wastewater reclamation and reuse presented broad coverage of the subject, including reclamation technologies and treatment process reliability, reuse infrastructure and facilities planning, public health issues, economic and financial analysis, water utility and resource management, reclamation and reuse criteria, public policy and education, legal aspects of reclamation, and bibliographical references (Asano, 1998). In addition, a special publication on using reclaimed water to augment potable water resources was published jointly by WEF and AWWA (WEF and AWWA, 1998). In-depth coverage of this emerging reuse alternative is presented, including planning for indirect potable reuse, health and regulatory considerations, treatment technology, system reliability, public information outreach programs, summary of current projects, and extensive references. |
