Emergence of a novel Shigella flexneri serotype 1d in China

Abstract We report on the isolation of 5 Shigella flexneri strains displaying a novel serotype, 1d, that shares serologic features from both S. flexneri serotypes 1a and X. The 1d strains contained serotype-converting bacteriophages SfI and SfX in tandem on the chromosome. These strains were likely...

Summary:Abstract We report on the isolation of 5 Shigella flexneri strains displaying a novel serotype, 1d, that shares serologic features from both S. flexneri serotypes 1a and X. The 1d strains contained serotype-converting bacteriophages SfI and SfX in tandem on the chromosome. These strains were likely originated from serotype X strains through SfI infection.
