Inappropriate use of loop diuretics in elderly patients

Loop diuretics remain the cornerstone of management in patients with congestive cardiac failure. Loop diuretics are overused due to the over-diagnosis of heart failure in primary care, with many patients started on heart failure treatment on the basis of history and clinical examination alone.
