Summary:The aim of this work is investigating the application of the Calcium looping process in cement plants with CO2 capture. A novel configuration with oxyfuel calciner and a carbonator integrated in the raw meal suspension preheater has been assessed by means of process simulations. The results obtained show a high potential of the proposed process, with equivalent avoided CO2 emissions (i.e. accounting for credits associated to electric power export) of about 94%, vs. 76% obtained for a competitive oxyfuel cement plant.
