Summary:The maximum likelihood method is applied to obtain optimum estimates of the energy characteristics of a noise source and the direction of its radio-frequency radiation arrival in a two-element radio interferometer. Algorithms of optimum processing of noise signals are synthesized. The structural diagram of a radio interferometric device is presented. Potential precision characteristics of the estimates are obtained and analyzed. These solutions are characterized by the presence of adaptive decorrelation filters with various amplitude-frequency characteristics in the channels of estimation of the noise temperature and of the radiation arrival direction as well as by the presence of a controlled delay line and by estimation of the coherence function of oscillations undergoing matched filtering and decorrelation.
