Summary:Recently, large increases have been noted in injection drug use and HIV prevalence among drug users in Indonesia. The objective of this study was to examine the experience of drug users with HIV testing in Bali, Indonesia. In-depth interviews were conducted with a sample of 40 drug users who had injected heroin in the Denpasar, Bali area. The users' experience with testing highlighted the importance of pre- and post-test counselling that provides clear information, confidentiality and assistance in developing social support.
