Mechanical Properties of C60 Bulk Materials Synthesized at High Pressure

Uniform bulk material of the polymerized C60 phase was synthesized under high-pressure sintering at 5. 4 GPa and 400°C for 2 h, and a bulk sample of the pristine phase was also obtained after subsequent heat treatment in a vacuum at 400°C for 2 h. The crystal structure of the polymerized bulk sample...

Summary:Uniform bulk material of the polymerized C60 phase was synthesized under high-pressure sintering at 5. 4 GPa and 400°C for 2 h, and a bulk sample of the pristine phase was also obtained after subsequent heat treatment in a vacuum at 400°C for 2 h. The crystal structure of the polymerized bulk sample was iduntified as a fcc structure . Mechanical properties such as elastic moduli, hardness, compressive strength, frictional coefficients and wear rate were clarified Mechanical properties of the polymerized sample were higher markedly than those of the pristine phase due to intermolecular covalent bonds.
