Highlights • Vaccine components were visualized longitudinally when tagged with iron oxide. • In vivo changes in biodistribution observed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). • Iron-labeled antigen in DepoVax exhibits sustained clearance from the vaccine site. • Sustained antigen clearance consistent with active transport by immune cells.
