Woman's capacity to create: The unusual case of Sofonisba Anguissola
Although Renaissance critics recognized the participation of more than 35 16th-century women in the visual arts, they did not--except in the case of Sofonisba Anguissola--acknowledge a female capacity for achieving excellence in these arts. Anguissola's skill as a portrait painter is discussed.
