Summary:In this special journal issue, On Scientists and Science, the author summarizes Einstein's political activities throughout his professional life to argue that the scientist's radical political views culminated in a worldwide plea to humanity. A historical narrative of his politics traces his radical views & activities from the renouncing of his German citizenship at sixteen, the use of his fame on behalf of social justice, involvement in the Wallace presidential campaign, the impacts of the red scare on his life, & the public & private acts of resistance despite surveillance by the US government. The theme of pacifism that he promoted throughout his life culminated in the political choices posed in the Einstein-Russell Manifesto that called for humanity to surpass its quarrels to achieve a new Paradise, versus the risk of universal death.
