Summary:Metal-organic frameworks, particularly those coordinated with nitrogen-rich ligands, are extremely versatile materials. Here the structural factors and performances of 1D and 2D energetic MOFs are compared briefly with those of 3D species. Advantages of hydrothermal in situ synthesis, properties of azole-based ligands, and choices of environmentally friendly metal ions for 3D energetic MOFs are also explored. 3D Nitrogen-rich MOFs as newly emerged energetic materials have experienced rapid development in the last few years. This Frontier Article highlights the most up-to-date progress in this field.
Bibliography:Jean'ne M. Shreeve is a Montana native. She received a B.A. in chemistry at the University of Montana, an M.S. in analytical chemistry at the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry at the University of Washington, Seattle. She has been at the University of Idaho since 1961 where she has served as chemistry department head and vice president for research and graduate studies. In 2011, Shreeve was named a University Distinguished Professor. Her research interests include the design, syntheses, characterization, and reactions of energetic materials, fluorine-containing compounds, and energetic ionic liquids.
Jiaheng Zhang obtained his B.S. in 2008 and Ph.D. in 2013 with Professor Haixiang Gao at the China Agricultural University. From 2012-2015, he was a member of the group of Professor Jean'ne M. Shreeve at the University of Idaho as a visiting scholar and subsequently, as a postdoctoral fellow. He is currently working as a Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellow at Yokohama National University. His research interests are centred on the use of ionic liquids and ionic salts for various materials.
