Crystal and Molecular Structure of Antibiotic Gilvocarcin M

The structure of gilvocarcin M, C26H26O9, an antibiotic with a novel carbon skeleton, has been determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. The space group is P21 with a=15.063(5), b=16.162(4), c=4.905(2) Å, β=91.47(3)°, and Z=2. The structure was solved by direct methods, and least-squares refineme...

Summary:The structure of gilvocarcin M, C26H26O9, an antibiotic with a novel carbon skeleton, has been determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. The space group is P21 with a=15.063(5), b=16.162(4), c=4.905(2) Å, β=91.47(3)°, and Z=2. The structure was solved by direct methods, and least-squares refinement using 1734 reflexions gave the final R value of 0.054. The title compound is composed of a unique aglycone and a fucofuranose, which are linked together through a C–C glycosyl linkage. The furanose ring takes the °E conformation.
