Summary:Economists have long criticized the inequity of our current system, which exempts employment-based insurance (EBI) from taxation and "enables" individuals with EBI "to purchase health insurance" with what amounts to "pretax income," a benefit "self-employed or unemployed Americans," who must buy coverage on the individual market, do not enjoy (Reinhardt, 1999, p. 124). Ali and Carrigan examine cardiovascular diseases health disparity and associated mental health comorbidity and discuss the important role social work can play in helping vulnerable populations. Harms and Talbot address the psychological consequences of road trauma on victims and consider implications for social work practice.
