Anticonvulsant effects of ivermectin in genetically-epileptic chickens

In genetically-photosensitive epileptic chickens, the anti-parasitic agent ivermectin, at 1.0 and 5.0 mg/kg, decreased or prevented seizures induced by intermittent photic stimulation without any side-effects on the central nervous system. The latency and duration of this anti-convulsant effect was...

Abstract In genetically-photosensitive epileptic chickens, the anti-parasitic agent ivermectin, at 1.0 and 5.0 mg/kg, decreased or prevented seizures induced by intermittent photic stimulation without any side-effects on the central nervous system. The latency and duration of this anti-convulsant effect was dose-dependent. When combined with diazepam, ivermectin prolonged the anti-convulsant action of diazepam.
