Summary:Reversibility of acetalization of poly (vinyl alcohol) with butyraldehyde and syntheses of a series of poly (vinyl butyral) s with high acetalization degrees were examind. The reaction was carried out sequentially by the dissolution and precipitation method. The degree of butyralization in polymer was determined by titration, IR, and elemental analysis. The highest degree was 91mol%, which suggests that the acetalization is reversible.
