"When My Hamster Died, I Cried": Preschoolers' Attributions of the Causes of Emotions

In a study, preschoolers were asked to view the happy, sad, angry and fearful expressions of puppets and asked to give reasons for the expressions. While 70% of the causes given for happiness were nonsocial, about 70% of the causes for sadness and 90% of the causes given for anger were social.
