From December 2019, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that has frequently overwhelmed health care systems due to the high number of patients requiring admission to an intensive care unit (ICU).
