Summary:Recent research has focused on family meals, specifically dinner, as an opportunity to improve diet and the health of both children and adolescents. Rockett highlights several studies, providing the basic research that has brought family dinner into the forefront of prescriptions for healthy diets of families. She concludes that sitting down to dinner with one's family will help provide a more healthful diet and possibly control the weight of one's family. Family dinner can be a respite from the hectic lives of family members to gather for a meal and can improve the diet of the family and perhaps help keep their weights under control.
