Texture and microstructural development in gelcast barium hexaferrite

The development of texture in barium hexaferrite by templated grain growth was studied as a function of the Fe 2 O 3 /BaCO 3 ratio, B 2 O 3 additions in the starting materials, and sintering temperature. A magnetic field was used to orient the template particles during the gelcasting process. Excess...

Summary:The development of texture in barium hexaferrite by templated grain growth was studied as a function of the Fe 2 O 3 /BaCO 3 ratio, B 2 O 3 additions in the starting materials, and sintering temperature. A magnetic field was used to orient the template particles during the gelcasting process. Excess BaCO 3 resulted in abnormal grain growth and maximized texture, while B 2 O 3 additions promoted coarsening, but no abnormal grain growth.
