Summary:Nano-sized Mn 2O 3 particles with regular morphologies were prepared using spray pyrolysis. The spherical, micron-sized precursor particles obtained from a spray solution with citric acid and ethylene glycol turned into nano-sized Mn 2O 3 particles after post-treatment. The particles prepared from a carrier gas with a high flow rate had fine sizes and regular morphologies after post-treatment. The mean sizes of the Mn 2O 3 particles obtained at the post-treatment temperatures of 800 and 900 °C were 90 and 250 nm, respectively. On the other hand, the Mn 2O 3 particles prepared from the spray solution without organic additives had irregular morphologies and broad size distributions. The particles prepared from the spray solution with citric acid and ethylene glycol had crystal Mn 2O 3 structures at the post-treatment temperatures of 600 and 1000 °C.
