Derivations of the equation for the field lines of an axisymmetric multipole
Two methods are given for finding the equation for the field lines of an axisymmetric multipole. One of these is based on Legendre's equation and the other on a treatment of spherical harmonics which goes back to Clerk Maxwell. These methods and that of Willis and Young are compatible.
