Summary:The urushiol components in Chinese lacquer ''Kuro-urushi'', which was processed by treating Chinese Raw Urushi (''Ki-urushi'') with Fe(OH)2, were isolated by reversed-phase liquid chromatography. A new component, which was not present in ''Ki-urushi'', was found. Structural analysis using H-1 NMR and mass spectrometry showed that the component is a regioselectively formed water adduct of the original urushiol component, i. e., 3-(11'E, 13'Z-8'-hydroxypentadecadienyl)catechol.
