Highlights • Ammonium salts of carbamodithioic acid were designed to inhibit free thiols. • Anaerobes like sperm, T. vaginalis , C. albicans and S. aureus were found susceptible. • Drug-resistant and -susceptible strains were equally susceptible. • A unique scaffold is discovered for development as vaginal microbicides.
